Eating more protein and less carbs to lose weight has become increasingly popular recently.
But we’ve heard it time and time again, “Meat and fat are bad for you. They clog your arteries and make you gain weight. If you want to be healthy, then you need to cut them out of your diet.”
For years we’ve been told not to eat eggs, dairy, and meat. After we’ve been told this a million times, the message starts to sink in, but no meat and no fat equates to junk medicine.
Fat does not make you fat. There are many testimonials of people losing fifty pounds or more eating meat and fat. The Atkins diet isn’t entirely wrong.
The problem is with eating carbs and sugar with fat. In order to lose weight, you should eliminate processed carbs (pasta, bread, etc.) and sugar (sodas).
Eliminating carbs will result in weight loss. Eating more protein and healthy fats leads to less hunger and more energy.
Processed carbs are easily absorbed in the body creating glucose which raises blood sugar. Insulin is then released to convert the glucose into fuel for the body. When insulin is released, it also tells the body to stop burning fat.
Fat is where the body stores stuff it can’t use.
And if you eat more carbs than your body can use, it gets turned into fat and stored.
Excess glucose gets stored in the arteries and around the mid-section cutting off circulation. The result is tissues not getting nourished leading to obesity and a myriad of other diseases.
Animal fats and healthy fats stabilize blood sugar and turns your body from a carb burning machine to a fat burning machine protecting it from diseases with the help of protein.
Healthy animal protein to include in your diet are grass-fed beef, free range chicken, and grass-fed lamb. Healthy fats include olive oil, coconut oil, and grass-fed butter.
A study in 2000, showed that caffeine taken with carnitine and choline result in less body fat and less blood fat, similar to mild exercise. This might be the edge you need to lose weight. Participants in the study showed a reduction of triglycerides, even without exercising. (Journal of Nutrition 2000; 130(2):152-7)
Weight loss product Metabolic Factors contains 2000 mg choline, 500 mg carnitine, and 200 mcg of chromium picolinate. Taken with coffee, these are the four weight loss supplements. Regular coffee, not decaffeinated because of the chemical processing. One cup of coffee before 2pm every other day is safe and would not have any bad effects, but I’ll leave the explanation for that in another post.
